- The year that was: 2008 Monday, January 5, 2009 @ 4:14PM While 2009 is still just a week old, we thought we’d cast a glance back over the past 366 days of 2008. So what made 2008 special? It was a leap year (hence the 366 days), a presidential election year and an Olympic year. The economy went south and so did the New England Patriots’ prospects, but the Boston Celtics soared.
